I did not see the ending coming。 It was good to see a possibly more realistic end to the story。

A retake on the story Little Red Hen, with beautiful illustrations and a twist。

This book is seriously funny, although I have started to feel sorry for the wolf in Little Red Riding hood now。 My children love having this book read to them and even join me in laughing at the end, its really easy to read and enjoy with youngsters。 Children aged 2 and 1。

A brilliantly funny take on well-loved fairy tales such as The 3 Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood。 As Mr Wolf is in the kitchen as he gets into trouble while making pancakes! Mr Wolf fancies some tasty pancakes but he doesn't know how to make them。 Asking his neighbours is no use - they're a mean and horrible lot who refuse to help。 He has to work it out, all by himself。 But what happens when those nasty neighbours want to help Mr Wolf eat his delicious pancakes。。。。 A brilliantly funny take on well-loved fairy tales such as The 3 Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood。 As Mr Wolf is in the kitchen as he gets into trouble while making pancakes! An awesome revisionist fairy tale that takes on a whole slew of fairy tales and has an all slew! The plot twist ending is super for questioning with children as to what the right thing to do is, you can use this as a discussion point。 Should the wolf let the neighbours enjoy the pancakes even after the refused to help him? Then an element of humour and unexpected ending will hopefully make the children laugh。Throughout the story the wolf struggles with tasks such as reading, writing, and counting and had no one to help him。 But with perseverance and hard work he managed to do it all by himself。 Good message to children even though it may take a little bit of time if you try hard you will succeed。The familiar other characters should be identifiable to children and therefore making connections to other stories such as the three little pigs and little red riding hood。 Although ‘rude’, ‘rotten’ and ‘greedy’ neighbours the wolf appears to be the kinder person and doing the decent thing even though some people are not always nice。It is clear throughout the message of doing it all by yourself and not necessarily needing someone else to help you do something。 Although it is important to note that is okay to ask for help when you think you are struggling and someone will be able to help you but you don’t necessarily need them。I think this is a great book for sharing with the class and can be used as a teaching point for sharing, helping one another, being independent and believing in yourself。 。。。more

This is an entertaining book about self-reliance and being able to do things on your own。 The story begins with a similar feel to the The Little Red Hen, although instead of lazy neighbors, they are afraid of Mr。 Wolf。 The ending was a bit of a surprise, but not an unwelcome one, considering the nature of the wolf and the behavior of the various characters。。 The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish and overall, it is a fun, fast read。 This is an entertaining book about self-reliance and being able to do things on your own。 The story begins with a similar feel to the The Little Red Hen, although instead of lazy neighbors, they are afraid of Mr。 Wolf。 The ending was a bit of a surprise, but not an unwelcome one, considering the nature of the wolf and the behavior of the various characters。。 The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish and overall, it is a fun, fast read。 。。。more

I read this in preparation for my Breakfast storytime next week。 It's a cute take on fractured fairy tales and there's a mighty twist at the end。 It's a little long for a storytime setting though。For: fans of pancakes, fairy tales/fractured fairy tales。Possible red flags: characters in peril。 I read this in preparation for my Breakfast storytime next week。 It's a cute take on fractured fairy tales and there's a mighty twist at the end。 It's a little long for a storytime setting though。For: fans of pancakes, fairy tales/fractured fairy tales。Possible red flags: characters in peril。 。。。more

A nice book about Mr。 Wolf who wants to make some pancakes for his breakfast。 Boy, his neighbors clearly had something up their craws, and then to want the pancakes after each one turned Mr。 Wolf away? The story feels a bit a la The Little Red Hen due to the plot, but it has a rather surprising ending。 Serves those neighbors right, I'd say。 (view spoiler)[ Okay, maybe eating them wasn't necessarily the right approach, but some karma had to be dealt here。 (hide spoiler)] A nice book about Mr。 Wolf who wants to make some pancakes for his breakfast。 Boy, his neighbors clearly had something up their craws, and then to want the pancakes after each one turned Mr。 Wolf away? A funny little story with an interesting twist at the end! Fearnley has introduced intertextuality with the different characters the Wolf asks for help。 The well known "big bad wolf" is portrayed as a good character that needs some help to make pancakes。 While his neighbours are rude and can't help him he accomplishes the task on his own。 A nice message I believe shows children that although you may think you need help, things are still possible to complete on your own。 You can achieve anything A funny little story with an interesting twist at the end! This was a really interesting book that sparked a great debate in the classroom - what should the wolf have done?On one hand the neighbours were all so rude to the wolf he should have just sent them away when they wanted the pancakes。 But, 2 wrongs don’t make a write。 On the other hand if the wolf had let the neighbours in to eat all the pancakes then he would have let rude people walk all over him。 So the wolf eats all the neighbours up。 Arguably the worst thing to do? I see this scenario similar to playground behaviour。 One child is mean to another child。 That child either says a mean comment back, takes the mean comments or hits the child。 I’m not sure the wolf made the best decision but all morals aside this was an entertaining book which year 1/2 chn loved and sparked an interesting debate。 。。。more

Useful for showing perseverance regardless of the subject。 Also good for showing emotions through the wolf and his neighbours。

The story teaches children about not being selfish but instead thinking of other people by helping them out, being kind or sharing with others。I would recommend this book because it gives an important message of not being selfish。 I enjoyed the story because I thought the different fairy tale characters made the story relatable for children。

Love this book。 A great collection of characters from classic fairy tales/nursery rhymes。

A cleverly written, well illustrated and funny modern fairytale。 I would only recommend this to children 8 years old and above。。。。it's usually at that age that they start reasoning and have an understanding that characters in books are not always flat, but multi-dimensional。 This is the first picture book that I have come across that delivers the message about being self-sufficient。 Well done Jan! This is a great modern tale of the original Little Red Hen book。 It has the same plot line as the Little Red Hen but it has a different twist to the characters。 Plus the Wolf is making pancaked not bread, more realistic in our time period。

Mr Wolf, who is portrayed as a good character, has a craving for pancakes however, he is helpless when it comes to reading and counting which makes it tricky for him to make his dish。 The story features other characters from traditional tales and puts a twist in the plot, even I was surprised!

The kids at storytime got a kick out of this book。 They felt so bad for Mr。 Wolf that most of them didn't seem to mind that he ate up all of his neighbors in the end! They looked a bit shocked, but most of them laughed when they got over their surprise。 And many left asking their parents to make them pancakes when they got home! I really liked this one。 It's about a wolf going to all his fairy-tale neighbors to get help making his pancakes。 They're a surly lot and refuse to help him。 When he finally manages to get the pancakes made, they all show up at his door and demand some。 What's a wolf to do? Why eat them of course! Then finish the pancakes off himself。Great illustrations! One of my all-time favourite childrens books!
